Betty Donsky

Obituary of Betty E. Donsky

On February 22, 2018 Betty Estelle Donsky very peacefully passed away at the Jewish Home of Rochester. The Donsky family cannot thank the staff at the Jewish Home enough for the excellent care they gave Betty during her stay there; Betty was very grateful for the care she received, and referred to the staff as “Gold.”

Betty was born on October 1st, 1930 to parents Samuel and Marie Christensen in Geneva, NY. She lived in Geneva until the age of 13 when both of her parents passed, and then moved to Stanley, NY to live with her sister Ruth and her family. She remained in Stanley until graduating high school, and then went on to attend Rochester Business Institute. It was while attending RBI that she met her now husband Theodore Donsky. The couple dated for a few years before marrying on February 20, 1955. Theodore, who lovingly refers to her as “Chrissy,” has been by her side ever since. They were excellent dancers, entering and winning multiple dance contests, Betty capturing everyone’s attention when on the dance floor. The couple’s dream of having a family came true many years later when they had a son, Alan. The threesome lived throughout the United States before settling back in Rochester in 1975.

Betty was a stewardess for a short period and then a bookkeeper, before becoming a fulltime stay at home Mom. Betty also worked alongside Ted for many years, assisting in the bookkeeping of his personal real estate business. She also helped care for her grandchildren when they were young, something that she absolutely loved and the memories created during that time lasted her a lifetime. She was a truly kind soul, always putting others first. Even on her worst days and right to the very end, she’d think of others before herself. Her love and compassion for others, kindness, and glowing smile will be forever remembered.

She is pre-deceased by her parents and siblings Arthur, Alice (Dickinson) and Ruth (Hutchinson). Survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Theodore Donsky, son Alan (Jessica Salada), grandchildren Connor and Lauren Donsky; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Brighton Memorial Chapel, Inc., 3325 Winton Road South. Interment, Britton Road Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lollypop Farm at 99 Victor Road, Fairport, NY 14450.
